Recording Update

Making Progress

The last couple of months have been pretty busy. Despite some fires and smoke the new EP kept moving forward at Arimaka Studio, in Los Feliz, CA. I’m excited about how the new songs are taking shape, as usual, beyond my expectations. I really can’t foresee the magic each skilled, creative person will bring to the music, but I have come to expect it, and leave room for it in my imagination.

October 1st we started recording guitars! I wrote about it in my last post. To read it click HERE.

Then, a few weeks ago, we recorded vocals for the demos that were given to all the studio musicians.

Friday, November 1st, I had the pleasure of watching Manu Jimenez record Grammy-nominated producer Marcus Kincy playing keys for our new EP!

He composed beautiful arrangements on the spot, late into the night. We were done around 1:00 or 2:00 am, tired but happy with the results. Marcus was kind to have taken some of his time in LA to help out an indie project. (The next night he played with Camila Cabello!) He said he loved all 5 of our songs, especially the first and the last one. 💕

I don’t want to give any spoilers so this is only a short clip…

Wednesday, Nov 6th we recorded drums and bass. It was wonderful seeing super talented Jorge Balbi Castellano and Ian Walker again! It’s been four years since they played on Indigo Sky so it was a bit of a reunion. They also loved the new songs! Here are 2 short clips from that night. I couldn’t hear Ian’s expert bass playing, but I could sure hear Jorge’s powerful drums.

Looking forward to making more progress in December!

I couldn’t resist making one of these videos with the #marcelgenerator on Spotify. What can I say, Marcel has good taste!

Bye for now! -Elena
